InnovaMass

The InnovaMass 240S inline and 241S insertion flowmeters are designed to measure the mass flow rate of any gas or liquid and are ideally suited for saturated or superheated steam. The InnovaMass flowmeters let you measure five process parameters simultaneously from one point in the process line: mass flow rate, temperature, pressure, volumetric flow rate, and fluid density. Available in cryogenic version for fluids to -330°F (-200°C) and high pressure version to 5000 psig (345 barg).

InnovaMass is a true high performance, rugged, and reliable workhorse in the industry. The 240S Reducer version allows lower flow rate measurement than traditional vortex meters and eliminates the need for field-installed piping reductions. The 240S cryogenic version is designed for fluids down to -330°F (-200°C). The 241S is available in high-pressure versions capable of mass flow measurement up to 5000 psig (345 barg), and offers an optional hot tap version for easy install with no process shutdown. All models are fully field programmable, configurable, and feature RS-485, Modbus, HART, and BACnet protocols.

Sierra’s 240S/241S Series multivariable vortex mass flow meters use a unique sensor head to monitor mass flow rate by directly measuring three variables: fluid velocity, temperature and pressure. The built-in flow computer calculates the mass flow rate and volumetric flow rate based on these three direct measurements. The velocity, temperature and pressure sensing head is built into the vortex meter’s flow body. To measure fluid velocity, the flow meter incorporates a bluff body (shedder bar) in the flow stream and measures the frequency of vortices created by the shedder bar. Temperature is measured using a platinum resistance temperature detector (PRTD). Pressure measurement is achieved using a solid-state pressure transducer. All three elements are combined into an integrated sensor head assembly located downstream of the shedder bar within the flow body.

The InnovaMass vortex velocity sensor is a patented mechanical design that minimizes the effects of pipeline vibration and pump noise, both of which are common error sources in flow measurement with vortex flow meters. The velocity measurement is based on the well-known Von Karman vortex shedding phenomenon. Vortices are shed from a shedder bar, and the vortex velocity sensor located downstream of the shedder bar senses the passage of these vortices. This method of velocity measurement has many advantages including inherent linearity, high turndown, reliability and simplicity.
