Many, if not most, real-world fires are dirty, sooty, smoky fires with lots of carbon-based particulates. This can obscure, absorb or seriously degrade the signal needed by a standard narrowband flame detector.
Fire Sentry WideBand IR flame and fire detectors use optical absorption and wide band interference filters to see all types of fires: complete and incomplete combustion, hydrocarbon and non-hydrocarbon, growing and steady state fires, even shuttered and non-shuttered.
Fire pic software allows you to confirm the existence of a fire and gives you verifiable data to support it.
